Siriol Sherlock made her name as a botanical artist, exhibiting widely, teaching and writing books on the subject. She is widely recognised as one of the world's top contemporary botanical artists.

In recent years family life, building two homes, various gardens and 'other large projects' have taken over and very little of her work has been exhibited for a decade. She has recently built an art studio in her garden in West Sussex and is feeling inspired to get back to work whenever there is time - although, as all artists know, there is never enough time and always conflicting priorities. However, she is painting again albeit with less of the botanical illustration and more experimental new work because, in Siriol's words:

"As I get older I don't seem to have the time or patience for botanical illustration. Watercolour will always be my first love and where my main expertise lies, but I am currently enjoying the challenge of working in oils and painting landscapes, still life....and some flowers.

Colour, light effects, tonal contrasts and the beauty of our amazing natural world have always been the main inspirations behind my work and continue to inspire my new work."

This website shows some new work which is for sale. There are also examples of past work such as the giant Bird of Paradise plant (Strelitzia nicolai) above.

All the examples shown of past work were either commissioned directly or sold through exhibitions and galleries who take a commission from sales so they can function and exist - normally between 25 - 50% of the sale price (with an average of 35%). Please do support the galleries, exhibitions and open studios in your area - it is so much better to see a painting or piece or art or craft-work first hand rather than on a screen...and so satisfying for artists to see their work exhibited professionally in the best surroundings. The galleries on our high streets are precious and most artists are happy to support them so they continue to thrive..... and indeed survive.
